50 Shades Bonus Video #1

I've done the reading and I'm going to start writing the next review in a few hours following 1) a nap and 2) football watching. In the meantime, here is the video of my spare notes from the first three chapters. Please disregard my frequent gesturing to my crotch. Or don't, I don't know your preferences.

Please do more videos! They really add to the enjoyment of your awesome tear-downs of the 'novels'.

Okay, 1) as a "married", my husband and I purposefully edited the "obey" part of our vows out, but if you marry within any Christian religion and use the standard vows, obey IS in the wording. 2) My hubby and I did call each other Mr. and Mrs. for about five minutes after the ceremony, and jokingly while on our honeymoon, but it got old quick. Unfortunately, that particular convention is a hallmark of poorly written romance novels and crappy rom-com movies. 3) There are boobs in the picture behind you on the wall. I was mildly distracted. :)

KAYLA WINS. I have been wondering since I recorded this who would be the first person to notice the boobs. Also thanks for the tip about the vows :)

Bill - I plan to make a video to accompany each review.

I have yet to watch the video (bah to work filters!) but thought I’d throw in my 2 cents with regards to the vows…
I’ve sung at more than my fair share of weddings the past couple of years, and not once have I heard the vow ‘to obey’.
You can opt to have it included if you want to, but the standard vow nowadays is ‘to love and to cherish’. (I think in the alt. vows the man adds ‘to worship’ and the woman adds ‘to obey’)

This is all from a Church of England bias mind you – couldn’t say what the standard is for other denominations/countries/whatever the hell crap James made up this time.

The use of last names was probably my number one pet peeve in the first five chapters of the first book, which is all of this bullshit I could stand to read. You are more of a woman than I.

Yeah, it's up to you whether or not you have "obey" in your wedding vows these days and most people don't (and if they do it's only because it's traditional, they don't literally mean it).
Though I'm surprised Christian didn't insist on it, it's the sort of thing he'd do.

As for calling each other "Mr. and Mrs. [surname]", I think a lot of newly-weds do do that in a joking sort of way because of the novelty of being a Mr and Mrs but they don't do it for very long, it would get boring quickly.
If they're doing it until it starts to grate on you, that's just another writing fail.

Kate - At the beginning of the book when Christian wakes up from his nightmare he is having a minor panic attack about that fact that she's refusing to promise to obey. He's not sure he can handle it, it is completely throwing him. WTF.

As for Mr. and Mrs. Grey, they are STILL DOING IT. I AM ON PAGE 126.

Boobs? I noticed the legs and butt, but was otherwise too distracted by Amberance's moving hands to notice what was on the wall. ;)

It's true, I flail. :)

I laughed so much at your efforts to kill EL with your death stare through the internet.

You may have had a comment like this already but my husband and I had a Christian wedding and it was the vicar who married us who said that it's pretty standard now for couples to choose to replace the word "obey" with "cherish" :)

Also, I'm loving the videos!
